A New York prosecutor accused of using political connections to avoid arrest -- before her recent arrest for driving while intoxicated -- has been fired.
The prosecutor was fired by the Bronx District Attorney in mid-January, about a year and a half after she was allegedly involved in a car accident while driving drunk on the Major Deegan Expressway, about 60 miles south of Newburgh.
"She was terminated (from her job)," a district attorney's office spokesperson told a media source.
The 34-year-old was driving home after a party with other prosecutors in late August 2010 when she allegedly crashed her vehicle.
She's accused of trying to use her law-enforcement connections to talk her way out of the arrest.
"No foul, no foul -- I didn't do anything wrong," she said to the arresting police officers, according to court documents. "I'm not even supposed to be driving."
She was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. She declined to take a breathalyzer test.
The refusal resulted in the revocation of her driver's license, though it was later reinstated, and the reckless driving charge was dropped.
According to the media source, she was arrested and released following a 2009 Christmas party after telling police officers that she was a prosecutor. She was suspected of drunk driving in that incident as well.
The prosecutor's criminal defense attorney made a good point to the media: "Even an innocent person accused of a crime they did not commit can face the loss of employment, potentially impacting their career before a jury even gets to decide their case."
He said he looks forward to defending his client in court on the charges in the most recent incident.
