While arrests for drunk driving are certainly frequent in the Newburgh area, we also like to keep an eye in this blog on DWI news from around New York State.
One arrest took place recently about 35 miles south of Newburgh on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Ramapo. That's where a Stony Point man, 37, was charged with a felony count of driving while ability impaired by alcohol or drugs.
The charge is a felony because the man had been convicted of driving while intoxicated within the past decade, according to law enforcement officials.
In Lawrence, New York, authorities said a 50-year-old man was recently driving there on a Sunday afternoon when he saw a turkey in the middle of the road. He swerved to avoid the bird, but lost control of his car and went off the road.
State troopers who arrived on the scene arrested him for driving while intoxicated, as well as for possession of marijuana.
A friend of the man, who was following him in a separate vehicle, pulled over to help. He, too, was arrested for DWI.
In nearby Putnam, a 53-year-old man with a prior DWI conviction was charged by troopers with two felonies: aggravated driving while intoxicated and DWI.
The aggravated DWI charge indicates that his blood alcohol level was at least 0.18 percent. Here in New York, the legal blood alcohol threshold is 0.08 percent.
A Burnt Hills man was charged with misdemeanor driving while impaired by drugs. His arrest came shortly before three in the morning on Interstate 84.
All of these DWI suspects would do well to make use of the skills and knowledge of an attorney experienced in successful DWI defense.
